On the eve of the 26th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, at the Gangying Aquaculture Farm in Zhongshan's Tanzhou Town, workers were bustling about loading fish. A batch of frisky grass carp was set to be shipped to Hong Kong and Macao.

Tanzhou Town, with the largest aquaculture area in Zhongshan, has become an important production base for fish supplied to Hong Kong and Macao, thanks to its close proximity to the two regions, which results in short transportation distances and low costs.
Currently, the town boasts 10 customs-registered agricultural enterprises supplying Hong Kong and Macao. The main fish species raised are the four major carp varieties, with an annual output of 6,000 to 8,000 tons, making up over 30% of the city's total live fish exports to the two SAR markets.
